Welcome!

Write the Grant! is a virtual multi-week workshop that helps library staff build the skills and confidence to write winning grants. You’ll learn practical ways to simplify the process, craft strong proposals, and create writing samples you can reuse for future applications. In addition, you’ll share ideas, get feedback, and grow alongside supportive peers.

Lesley Zavediuk and the Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) developed Write the Grant! as a pilot project to help library staff strengthen their grant writing skills. Specifically, the program focuses on building practical writing experience and confidence. The first cohort begins in early 2026, and it will include staff from IHLS member public libraries serving populations under 10,000. Participants will draft their own grant proposals, exchange peer feedback, and learn practical strategies for simplifying the grant-writing process and effectively telling their library’s story. In addition, they will connect with peers across the system to share ideas and strengthen their professional networks.
